In this review of AMD's new Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, we look at the remainder of Intel's i5 lineup -- primarily composed of the i5-9600K -- and run generational benchmarks versus AMD's older R5 2600/2600X and R5 1600 CPUs. All modern CPUs on the chart also have overclock numbers accompanying them. Memory was 3200MHz CL14 with manually configured secondary and tertiary timings for all bench platforms, ensuring data accuracy and consistency. 3200MHz is the highest frequency that works on everything we benchmarked in this list, allowing us to control a variable while still using a reasonable memory speed. We'll do separate benchmarking on memory scaling. In the meantime, this benchmark tests the AMD R5 3600 for power consumption, Blender performance, Premiere, Photoshop, 7-Zip, V-Ray, GCC code compiling, and more, alongside gaming benchmarks versus Intel. Our reviews of the AMD R9 3900X, R7 3700X, AMD RX 5700 XT, and AMD RX 5700 are forthcoming or have already been published, depending on when you check this video. Be sure to check back regularly to catch all of the reviews -- they're mostly done! AMD vs. Intel 2019 has officially started.

The 3600 just popped on Amazon France and holy shit the value of this chip cannot be matched! Literally hovering 199 euros at the moment! Not only that, the 2600 dropped straight to ~119 euros and the 1200 hovering the 60 euros! So if you want the best chips for your money don't even consider on looking elsewhere!

I am legit amazed, the 3600 was announced first at around 250 euros, but these mad lads released it at ~199 euros and dropped the price of some of their best 2nd gen chips !

Tbh i'm dissapointed in the 3600.. mine wont even hit 4.3 its fine at 4.25 at 1.4 but even going to 4.275 it just wont do it no matter how much volts i give it tried up to 1.6 and just crashes cinebench.
I hope that it has something to do with the shitty glitched out bios msi spat out and that they will update it soon but idk.

That Civilization VI test is interesting, as that's a real world example of how long does a thing take with a new CPU. Wish there was at least 1 more example of such a calculation. Well done! :)

It will be interesting as applications and games begin to use more cores in the near future if even the older gen Ryzen chips narrow or move ahead of the ≈ Intel chips.

Do you think this CPU is a better value for gaming and single-threaded workloads than an Intel Core i5 9400f which is only $157?

Pcpartpicker says the Ryzen 5 3600 is selling for 199.00, and the intel processor that is the closes to it price wise is the i5-7500 which is selling for 199.59.. So that is the processor that Ryzen 5 3600 is competing with and should be compared to.
The Ryzen 5 3600X is selling for 248.00 and the i5-9600K is going for 249.69, so those are the comparisons that should be happening at this time.

It probably isn’t said enough, but the i5-9600k is $250 AND requires a heatsink fan to be sold separately, so add another $20 minimum, and it’s now $270 compared to the $200 Ryzen 5-3600.

The i5 at best matches the 3600 in most games and at worst gets obliterated in multithreaded benchmarks, while again having a $70 price difference. Need to identify these price/performance gains more clearly. The i5-9600k is obsolete.

Everyone is dazzled by the 3900X, but most gamers look at $200-$250 CPUs.

Massive temp spikes and sudden drops after swapping out my 1600. Reinstalled Windows. HWMonitor isn't showing CPU temps. My 1600 was dead silent. Looks like it's going to be a rocky start for me.
