Why not to shoot 4k and then compress to 1080p. Where's the problem with 1080p

So the moral of the story here is to just use software designed for the requirements you have? Seriously? Lol

Hey can you do an update to this video but with the Cinergy daniel Codec Plugin that uses the graphics card video encoder and decoder to render and its a game changer, I got at least 30% faster renders and I have a i7-9700k and a gtx 760

Well, that's great and I don't know about Premiere performance but the Radeon VII performs just a tiny bit worse than the 2080ti in Resolve, has more VRAM
and is a lot less expensive.

Spends 12k on a gpu and use a non standard driver to do this... Or just decompress and edit in prores and be done with it

I don't know anything about editing video, but I am a confused as to why you would buy an expensive high end 8k camera to film and expensive high end computer parts to edit, but then limit yourself with a 1440p monitor.

I wonder if NVIDIA and RED are working on a dual Quadro set up where the entropy and wavelet decoding are handled on a separate GPU to the main rendering GPU or across multiple NVLINK Quadros. I would love to see entropy and wavelet decoding supported on a bespoke part of a GPU, like the T4 zone of the die.

Resolution isn't the problem with content. It's frame rate. The real question is not what can edit 8k but what can edit 120fps 4k hfr. The future of content isn't resolution bump but frame rate bump. Gemini Man and films like it will be the future. Love to see a vid on a rig that can do 120fps 4k real time. When you go 120hfr you are dealing with two problems Processing Power and IO. We are talking massive M.2 SSD raid 0 drive speeds to run the footage. Just thinking of the monstrosities needed to edit Gemini Man makes my brain hurt and the film is in stereo.

There are workarounds that are so easy and cheap though. Most professional digital cinema cameras, including RED and Canon, record ProRes or H.264 proxy files simultaneously to an SD card while recording 7:1 RAW/R3D files. You're watching it play back in your timeline on a preview size of about 1080p. Just edit with your proxy files when you need smooth response times, then simply connect the full size files when color grading and adding effects. You'll save thousands of dollars without sacrificing efficiency, additional rendering time, or output quality.

That was nice, but, you offloaded the entropy decoding and wavelet decoding to the RTX, right? Would that be possible with the Titan or GTX? Or can we assume that, with the high usage of the RTX in these processes, it would not have the same performance.
