When Linus said "For older games at target resolution of 1600x1200", I realized that I still use 1366x768 aka HD Ready monitor.
Well... I'd better upgrade my display.

Also buy GOG games duh! More than half the games on GOG should run on WinXP.

2004? should have gone further back in time, to make a Win98 rig, so you can play Win 95 and 98 games which do have a lot of trouble working on modern stuff.

imagine 20 years later the i9 9900k being 5 dollar like what gaming would be when that happen like jeeeeeees btw 2004 was exactly 15 years to 2019 so 20 years should more than enough to make this cpu be 5 dollar unless we are slowing down in term of progression in computers

My dream teenage PC was a 486 DX 33Mhz with 4MB RAM. I could only afford a 386 SX with 1MB RAM.

The 6800Ultra was balln, I had 2 in SLi. But I had the duel slot Asus ones with like the mermaid design or whatever it was. The only down side being you could never see it due to the orientation of the cards 😐. I think my CPU was an AMD FX extreme CPU. When I look back I have no idea how I afforded it, was just outta highschool

I did a build recently with a Core2Quad and a GeForce 8800 GT. A bit later than your system (I estimate circa 2007) but still well within the realm of running XP. I ended up installing the first 3 versions of Quake, Doom 3, Star Wars: KOTR, Half Life/Half Life 2 along with TF Classic, Counter Strike 1.6, and even found a "classic" version of WoW that ran really well.

I appreciate this video tremendously, Thank you for the fond memories. I Used to work for CompUSA back in the day and I built a nearly identical machine to play... of course, Doom 3. I never would have built it if my AMD build was able to run it, I don't remember what the issue was but I remember how upsetting it was and after 20 hours of troubleshooting, I gave up and remember returning all my AMD hardware and purchasing an Intel equivalent. OH man, Doom 3 and the flashlight mod, I remember that so well. Honestly, I cheated a little bit and just turn my brightness up to make it through the game. But I do remember the stir it created. The jump scares are strong with the Doom 3. Feeling wise, it reminds me of FNAF jump scares. Once you get used to them, it wasn't too bad. Still never wanted to play it at night, in the dark...
